Jammu, February 18 (KNO) : Authorities on Monday relaxed the curfew in south Jammu after four consecutive days that was imposed following the violent clashes post Lethpora suicide attack on last Thursday. The relaxation in the curfew remained from 02 pm to 5pm here in several areas of the winter capital that include Satwari, Bhatindi, Channi Himmat, Ghandinagar, Sainik colony and Trikuta Nagar. The curfew was imposed on Friday evening after the violent clashes break out in Jammu after Lethpora attack.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri Civil Secretariat Employees boycotted joining official work and asked government to provide them, families safe passage back Valley and only after that they can resume work. According to President Civil Secretariat Employees Union, they have put forth the demand before Chief Secretary of the state that they including their families need safe passage to Valley. "We won't join duties unless we feel secure and tensions are calmed here. It is necessary that we go back to valley with our families. There is no point staying here," Mir said.
He said the situation is so grim that they cannot even get the daily household items from the market. "With so much fear and unpredictable situation how can we leave our families at the accommodations? We will have to go back to valley and when things come to normal, we will resume duties," he told KNO.
Mir also said that “if in two days they are not provided with required transport they will begin moving towards valley.” “If any untoward incident happens to us, the onus will be on the government and we have told this to CS also,” Mir said.
Winter capital of the State, Jammu remained under curfew for fourth straight day following violence by arsonists who attacked Muslim communities and Kashmiri employees in the region. They also torched several vehicles belonging to Kashmiris.
Army had to be called in to control the situation which went out of Police’s control as mobs overpowered police. Civil Society Jammu Muslims have also condemned the violence, saying that it has shamed Jammu.
According to sources, more than 100 youth have been arrested by police in connection of the violence that almost had created communal tensions between the communities. Army flag marched the sensitive areas on the third day of curfew as well. (KNO)
